RootsTech 2016: I’m Meeting Betsy There. I Haven’t Seen Betsy Since 1984.

In February of 2016, the sixth annual RootsTech national genealogy conference will be held in Salt Lake City. Last year’s event hosted almost 24,000 attendees. This coming year, I will be one of them.

I’m excited.

One reason is that it’s my first genealogy conference. That alone is reason for excitement.

But a really cool reason that I’m looking forward to going: I haven’t seen my friend Betsy since the 1980s. But through the wonders of social media, we’ve kept in touch here and there, watching our kids grow from afar. In the last year or so, I have noticed that she’s been tracing genealogy and posting her finds on Facebook. So, on a whim, I sent her a private message indicating my desire to attend the conference and I asked her if she would be interested in joining me in Utah.

Honestly, I didn’t really expect her to be able to attend but to my great surprise, she jumped on the offer and had purchased her plane ticket by the next day. Now that’s a fast response!

Registration hasn’t opened yet but we have a hotel and plane tickets.

Let me know if you’re going and maybe Betsy and I will meet you for coffee.

Julie, I am SO excited to see you again! To visit with you, learn from you and just catching up in person! For more than a decade, we have been in opposite corners of the US, me in Vermont and you in Texas. But our hearts are knitted together in sisterhood and love. So eager to see you again, and to have coffee with other family seeking budding genealogists!

This is a compendium of all of the genealogy blog posts I’ve found about activities, classes and meetings at the RootsTech 2015 and Federation of Genealogical Societies 2015 Conferences, held 11-14 February 2015 in the Salt Palace Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, written by attendees.
